About Me

Who am I?

My name is Claire. I live in the beautiful mountain town of Ohakune in the North Island of New Zealand.

I write poetry, short stories and have been tentatively working on my first novel for a few years.

I am a mother to four amazing humans, a wife and am currently studying full time towards a degree in primary education. During winter you will find me on my snowboard at my local ski field, Turoa, and in Summer bombing about on my bmx at the local bike parks.

Poetry and I have had a long love affair which began in Scotland where I was born, with my Grandma reading me A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson. This book was both my window and doorway into the world of poetry. I began writing at the age of around 10. I love words and the sounds of similes and rhyme spoken with steady rhythm and pace.

My inspiration comes from everyday life, love and pain.

As I get a little older and wiser, I am trying to extend my regular style to challenge myself - so stylistically my work may sometimes appear somewhat random. I am just following whatever comes to my mind and letting my instincts take the reins. Recently this has taken the form of short story work and the beginnings of a novel.

If you enjoy, or even despise my work, please leave me some feedback! I have no professional training and am always open to improving my process in my writing journey.
